Who are Hubjub?

Hubjub launched in 2003, but the business really got started a couple of years earlier, when Will Meister dug out an old Maillard fixed gear hub and a set of cross tyres and started riding the bridleways around his parents' house on the South Downs.

Offroad fixing was such a blast that Will started a website, 63xc.com, to make contact with others of the same persuasion. A few hundred readers would have been fine. As it turned out, the site struck a chord with makers and riders worldwide. In its first year alone, more than 30,000 people downloaded close to half a million pages, and 70 writers have contributed to the site's continuing success.

Contact with US fixers revealed something strange. US independent makers, many of them veterans of the mountainbike scene, had turned their attention to singlespeed and fixed gear. The products were among the best ever made--but they weren't reaching the UK and Europe.

Hence, Hubjub. The idea is pretty simple: to bring the best fixed gear parts and tools from the US and other countries to UK street and offroad riders at prices as close to US standard as possible.

If you're interested in finding out more about the tribulations of running an online cottage industry, you can read Will's business journal, the One Cog Blog.
