ugino's spare, elegant designs are a staple of the keirin circuit, and the company's cranks and rings are among the very few to have received full NJS certification. We thought it was time someone started importing Sugino in depth.

The silver version of the Sugino 75 is perhaps the single best-known crank on the keirin circuit, giving it a good claim on the 'world's favourite' title. It's a square-taper crank using the track-standard 144BCD, and its sharp, angular looks are quite unlike the flowing lines of most modern European offerings. We normally stock 165 and 170mm variants, both of which ship with neat inset ringbolts but no crankbolts. Click the 'Show me more' button at left to see the crank with different rings. Our biggest seller is the 75/Zen combination from the upper picture, favoured by track riders for the rigid, functional Zen ring. But the elegant 75 ring in the lower picture is now available again. Stock of both is limited to the sizes listed above, but you're welcome to mail us for info on other permutations, and also on availability of other crank lengths. Limited stock.

By popular request, we now stock the black Sugino 75 plus matching black versions of the 75 and Zen rings. You can see the former at the upper part of the zoomed photo, but since we were out of black Zens at the time of the shoot we used the cheaper Messenger Zen as a stand-in for the latter. We now hold full stock of the more expensive and harder-wearing black Zen. If you happen to fancy the 75/Messenger combo, we can always do it on custom order. Restocking shortly.

Sugino still make the best track cranks you can buy, but the rising yen means we're not selling as many as we used to. Although price cuts aren't really our thing, selling these Sugino rings at last year's prices gives us a chance to clear space and confusion, so we couldn't resist. We presently have the classic 75 ring in 46t silver (71.00) and 48t black (81.00) and the Zen with its toughened teeth and brutalist hard-edged ring in 46t silver (87.00) and 48t silver (91.00). The Zens have lettering in black and hot pink logos and the 75s have white letters. All are NJS-certified except the b/w 75 (but it is a great match for our Phil 'magpie' hubs). We also have limited stock of the Zen Messenger ring (68.00). This is the one that unscrupulous dealers sell as a Zen ring. It's nothing of the sort, but it makes a better-than-most basic ring. Ours are 144 BCD 44t, black ring with silver teeth. These are cheaper than the bundle deals offered with cranks. If you want to combine one of the reduced rings with a crank order, drop us a note.

Since Hubjub got started we've been trying to source the Sugino XD, and a couple of years back our persistence was finally rewarded. The XD is a 110BCD squaretaper crank of great strength and elegance, proven over many years. However, with five bolt designs out of fashion, Sugino have taken to chopping out the crank as a cheap triple for entrylevel mountainbikes. Whip off the stock rings, and what remains is a sleek coldforged crank, perfectly suited to 135mm singlespeed applications on- or offroad. We think it goes particularly well with the Surly stainless rings, and we'll give you a free set of ringbolts if you buy both.

Sugino lockrings fit most oriental-type hubs, bear the NJS stamp yadda yadda, and they have the lettering in contrasting yellow-on-black. Restocked.
