Respacing a LeVeL

The neat thing about the LeVeL InI hub is that a few minutes' work will set it up for a 120 or 135mm bike. The mode change isn't just respacing--it also changes the chainline. These few pictures show Will's battered LeVeL prototype undergoing the change from 135 to 120 spacing. The whole operation requires: 6mm and 8mm allen keys, TorX driver (one free with each rear hub) and a respacer kit (d'oh).

Using the 6mm key...

...bolt the non-drive end of your hub onto something. This old multispanner works well, but you can use one dropout of your bike at a pinch.

On the drive side...

...remove the other mounting bolt, then use the 8mm allen key to replace the old spacer with the new one.

Out with the 6mm allen key...

...undo the bolt securing the multispanner, bike dropout or other object to the non-drive side and re-attach it on the drive side.

Flip the hub...

...and use the 8mm allen key again to change the spacer on the non-drive side.

Here's the clever bit...

...undo the TorX bolts, work off the LeVeL cog...

...flip the cog...

...and bolt it back on again. Because the cog is asymmetric, the flip changes the chainline from singlespeed-y 51mm to a slightly tubby track 44mm.
